"I love this dress, I feel that it's more of a winter dress with leggings though than a summer one. Especially now that it's the perfect weather for me to do exactly that! My one problem with it is that I usually wear a size 2 or 4 in free people and for this one I went up to a size 6. Also the one I bought in stores has thick straps, not thin ones."

"I ordered the pink/siver dress. It is so cute! I did go 1 size up and it seems like I didn't really need to. I wear a C cup and it wasn't too tight at all."

Go one size up! - 10.1.2008
Top 25 Contributor Top 25 Contributor
"I love this dress. It is much more beautiful in person than in the photo. The beading very delicate, however, and I am not really keen on sending it to the dry cleaners as I am sure I will lose some beading. I went one size up and got a 4 in the navy color. I love this dress so much. The velvet really makes it and the straps are cute. I do not recommend it for large busted women. The bottom is fine, but on my 34A the top is pretty snug (without any bra). This dress is definitely made for small busted girls. If you are larger busted you might have to go more than one size up. buy it, you won't regret it!"

Quirky Cute! - 9.15.2008
Top 500 Contributor Top 500 Contributor
"I ordered this dress in maroon/grey/silver which seems almost like an ugly color combination, but in a likeable way? It arrived and I liked it very much! The detail beading really makes the dress.
Admittedly, I am new to Free People's sizing, so I ordered three sizes, and kept the 0 (the return for the other two sizes went smoothly with FP), which is what I most often wear in a dress size. I suppose what size you will want depends largely on your shape as well, because the bust material has a good amount of stretch to it, and the velvety skirt doesn't, so you want the skirt not to be skin tight so that it will hang right.
It's pretty short, but would look good with opaque tights or leggings!"

LOVE this dress!!!! - 8.22.2008
"Absolutely love this dress!! I've gotten loads of compliments when I've worn it! Looks great by itself or with a tank under it! Also, the material is thick enough that it can be worn well into fall!! I would definitely recommend going up a size."

I agree with Katie - 8.21.2008
Top 500 Contributor Top 500 Contributor
"I bought this original dress last fall, the one with the knit almost embroidered looking top with thicker straps and a green and blue and gold bird designed bottom. I love it. It looks good with tights or jeans, but def runs small. I usually buy 2s in FP dresses but always go with a 4 if the dress is more formfitting. I bought a 4 in this style because theres elasticity in the gold band and a side zipper and it feels very corset-like in that there is not tons of give. I've worn this dress with rain boots, flats and leather boots and everything looks great with it!"

love it - 8.18.2008
"The dress that I own like this is a little different than in the photos. I kind of have the peacock (ivory) one but the top is navy and the straps are much thicker... I actually like the look of mine better.
It fits really well but I think I'm usually a 0 and I got it in a 2, and was even contemplating getting it in 4.
The first day I wore it this summer, I got literally 3 compliments in a row by random strangers... 2 of which were old men (slightly creepy). Anyway I love this dress, it's pretty comfortable and the fit of it is really cute (the way it flares out)... I like everything about it.
I can't wait to wear it with tights/ boots and a T in the fall/ winter."

"I have this dress in the bird design, only the top part is blue. Definitely go up one size. I normally am a 6, but have it in an 8 and it is still a little on the short side, but is still stunning!"

super cute! but.... - 8.5.2008
"it seemed to run about 2 sizes small. I ordered up a size but ended up exchanging it for yet a larger size since I wanted a bit more room for layering. I tend to be a bit curvy and petite - total opposite to FP''s model type. Yet I have MANY FP dresses and this is my first real sizing issue :-)"

"I bought the Bord of Paradise dress when it first came out last year. I was so exicted when I saw different versions. I bought the black and blue one. I love it! It's a year round dress.
Now, last year, I went a size up. This time around, I went two sizes up and I am really happy with the length. I don't have to unzip it when I put it on and it hangs like a cute 60's dress."

"This is one of my favorite free people dress ever!! I bought it in one of the stores and it's just really cute and I've never seen anything like it before (why I love free people!!). It runs a little small so I would get a size up."

love this dress! - 7.15.2008
"I bought this dress in cream and I love it. It has beautiful detail, delicate straps, and I love the beading. It's light weight enough to wear in the summer but also can be worn with tights and boots in the fall. Fits a little small, I am normally a 0 and bought a 2. I would recommend to order a size up because it is a little short."

"I was not a fan of this dress online but when it showed up in the store I immediatly fell in love. Beautiful detail--from the colors to the beading this dress is a work of art. I recommend sizing up at least one if not two sizes since it runs small and doesn't exactly stretch (since it's made of velvet at the bottom). Great for dressing up or down--right now I'm wearing it with a tank but I can't wait for tights and boots in the fall. I have the ivory and am in love!"

Dress it up or down! - 7.11.2008
STAFF REVIEW STAFF REVIEW
"The fabric doesn't give much (the top is very stretchy but from the bust down it doesn't stretch) so be careful with sizing. If you are broad (swimmer/athlete type) go a size up so you will have room to layer and be comfortable. This will also give you a little bit more length. Each color has a different pattern ( I love the Ivory) so its easy and fun to pick out a color from the skirt part and layer with it once it gets cooler. Long sleeve or tank top, tights or fitted pant, have fun with this one because it can be worn so many ways!"

It's back!! - 7.7.2008
Top 10 Contributor Top 10 Contributor
"I was lucky enough to get this dress in blue when it came out last year. What a great surprise to see it back in another color! WoW! I had to buy this color too.
This is the perfect dress to take you from summer all the way through winter.
It looks great alone or with a tee.
I wore mine last winter with the round neck thermal and tights. Super cute!
I got more compiments on this dress than anything else I've worn in the last year.
Caution...I had the same problem with this dress as the blue....beads are not well secured. I had to resew them before I could wear it. Still definitely worth the effort."
