Love! But...
5.8.2013
"I ordered the charcoal, they're really lovely! Soft and comfortable too. I wear a 10.5 went with an 11, they fit perfectly. Would have rated these five stars except they arrived with a broken clasp and some wear already. It was obvious they had been previously worn and returned. Instead of fixing the clasp, FP sent them anyways. Given the price, its really irritating to get second hand, broken shoes. But... I decided to fix the clasp and keep them."

"I am a curvy lady and normally I have toruble finding boots that fit my claf well. I was completly in love with these boots. I knew they were adjustable but I wasnt 100% sure if they would fit. but THEY DO! they fit extremly well. Suede streatches so I ended up having to make them tigher. I wear these shoes basically eveywhere I go and I get so many complements. I ordered them in the black and now I want all the colors. The price is steep but they are completly and totally worth it."

Haven't bought, but will soon - plight of the poor
3.4.2013
"Sooo. I've been naively hoping these go on sale, but they havent so I'm saving up to get these.
I agree with the poster below, these look fab and if you are a shorter girl or even a taller girl and these are hitting you in a spot that isn't the best, has anyone tried scrunching them lower or untying the laces and folding the boot shaft down and then securing the flaps with the laces? I feel like this would solve the issue and I've styled my boots in the past this way just for variety to create other looks.
When I buy these I will upload photos.
Cant wait."

These boots are AWESOME!
3.2.2013
"I have been resisting buying these boots, but my boot craving got the better of me and I am SO glad it did. These boots fit and feel WONDERFUL. Yes, they go over my knee - they are supposed to. However, they are very comfortable. The suede is very supple and the boot forms so well to my leg that isn't annoying at all each time you bend your knee.
However, what rocket scientist designed the lace?? The lace is very very very long and the holes on the lace for the clasp are at the very very end of this long lace - in other words, there is no practical way to make the closure work like in the picture. ( FP - who is doing your design/production/fit QC these days?? ) Had to give it a 4-star rating for this reason. These boots aren't inexpensive and the buyer shouldn't have to cut the laces and punch holes in a pair of expensive boots!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Also, if you have wide calves, this boot probably won't work for you. I have slender calves and these boots form perfectly to my slender calves - no sagging!"

The Reviews
2.23.2013
"I have been admiring the Johnny Tall Boot for some time. As I read reviews there are several others who also admired before purchase. I'm puzzled though. As I read the reviews it seems that some people are complaining about the shaft of the boot being to high and hitting the knee. And scoring based mostly on this predicament. I mean you do realize that these boots are called "knee boots" right? They are supposed to be on the knee a little above or a little below your knee. Not going to fit everyone the same. And if you are 4'6" or 5' the boots are not going to fit you very well. Come on, evidently if your old enough to buy these you already know what works and what does not. At least you would hope you have enough common sense not to purchase something like a knee boot that is made for "average" height. If you are 7' or 8' tall the same applies. I had to write something because I don't believe it's the products, Free People, or the manufacturers fault at all and the scoring for the boot should might possible be higher. I do not think its fair to others who look at the star rating not knowing how the rating is affected unless most have been read. Not all of us have that kind of time. Scoring should not be considered based on this dilemma that shorter or taller people may have with knee, thigh and even ankle boots. One more issue is color. It is common sense to know that color on your screen may not be the same as the color in person. If you do not know this please understand that this is the case. It is typical and you may be disappointed if color variations are slightly off. However, this is not something that should be considered when rating the item. It is however, a good idea to mention that the color is lighter or darker, etc. But, I do not think it should be considered in the rating. Unless the color is extremely different. After all it's just common sense to know before you purchase that there will be color variations. It 's important for me to say I am not an employee and I am not affiliated with this company in any way other then a consumer who likes Free People products. This is just a few statements I thought should be said. Maybe we all should stick to rating the quality, fit and unexpected issues. Like the laces break easy, the heel is cheap, sizing is difficult and or they look cheap. Or just what I expected, beautiful, size is perfect, and or extremely comfortable,. Now that's good rating. Thanks for reading my commentary"

not for short girls :-(
1.30.2013
"Love the style, the heels, the laces on these boots, but it's only for extremely tall girls. Only wish they could shorten the shaft hight to 13 - 13 1/2 inches.
Then these babies will be gone. Sold out!
These will match everything in my wardrobe, but I'm only 5 feet, so the shaft hight of these boots will make me look ridiculous. So i'll just wait till they come out with shorter shaft.

Looks great

"I love my boots. They are a little fussy to get on and get fitted to the leg. When I put my foot in the boot it always wants to run away out the side zipper. But a small price to pay for a great looking boot and comfortable too."

Stunning
1.27.2013
"After wrestling for a few days with my thoughts on these, I've finally brought myself to write a review. They are, it has to be said, pretty extraordinary. Now, first things first-Fit. As a true 7.5 I had the chance to try these on in a 7 before ordering them. They were a little snug, and I considered that they would stretch, but in the end I went with the 8. I have room but not enough that I constantly notice it. Another thing is the height. I have to say, it's probably my biggest issue with this boot. I am on the taller side- 5'7", and I have long legs. These boots cut directly across my kneecap, which is to me, the most annoying thing about them. I really wish they just stopped under the knee. You definitely do have to mess with the laces a bit, and as other reviewers mentioned, they are made up of smaller pieces of leather glued together; still scratching my head over why that is. Once I got mine tightened the way I wanted to wear them, I needed extra holes punched in the lace and had way too much excess at the buckle, so I cut that off. I will say that once they are tightened all the way up, they stay up reasonably well throughout a full day of wearing them. I got them in tan and the color is gorgeous in person. If you walk a lot or live in a colder climate I would recommend getting new soles put on before wearing. I may have mine resoled if I wear them out quickly. Also, I would treat the suede with a protectant before wearing them. I did, and have no complaints. So all in all, after a lot of waiting, and a lot of work put in on these, I feel like I'm getting plenty out of them. They go with everything and are just so unique."

"charcoal"
1.8.2013
"WELL. I had been waiting a whole year for this moment. I love the boot, feels great, fits great. I look freaking awesome. My ONLY complaint is that they're not the dark grey/black color in the picture, more like a washed out grey. The wood of the heel is not as red, more like a dull yellow-brown. The colors together in the photo is what i really fell in love with... and what i have in front of me is kind of ugly. It makes me really indifferent to the product i just purchased. I almost just dont want to return them out of pride because I've waited so long. I know everyone often runs into this problem with free people. If only they could just be true to color!"

Love but not for me
12.3.2012
"I love ALMOST everything about these boots, the color, the suede, the laces, and they were very comfortable. I wanted so badly for these boots to work for me but it came down to them just being too tall for me. They were up to the middle to bottom of my knee, and this looks fabulous for some girls but not for me unfortunately :( I would have loved to have kept them but it was one of those things where I just knew I wouldn't wear them. I totally recommend these to anyone who can wear tall boots... they are amazing."

Pretty and easily adjustable
11.20.2012
"Super cute boots - I love the way they're laced and the fact that the material is so thin and comfortable since they do just come up to the bend in my knee. But... the price is high for the quality. As another reviewer mentioned, the leather lacing is made of shorter laces somehow pieced together. Though mine haven't broken, I was especially careful adjusting the laces for the first time after realizing how fragile they may be - once you get them adjusted for your fit you don't need to mess with them too much, however. I have very thin legs so instead of fastening the lace at the top through the belt closure I just wrap the extra around a couple of times and tuck the end and that works fine! I can see how they could end up looking slouchy, but I've found that if you lace them to fit they stay put. Despite the lack of quality for the price they're still beautiful. They look especially great with over the knee socks for fall/winter!"

Pretty but Poorly Constructed
11.14.2012
"I debated about ordering this after reading reviews about laces breaking, etc... But they had just the look I had been searching for, for some time. I put them on as soon as I got them...and when I pulled them on, a grommet holding the lace broke loose. In addition, as another review stated, the heel and sole are cheaply made...they look like plastic you might see on shoes from much lower quality stores. They went back, much to my dismay. For those of you still tempted, I wear a 6.5 normally...and the 6 worked great with thin socks."

fragile beauty
11.13.2012
"Got these in charcoal, which is lighter in real life but real pretty still. Sadly this is not a well made boot, but very very beautiful. The soles are really cheaply thin and you literally can feel every rock you step on so i recommend you spend little more monies and put soles on them, especially in a rainy/cold climate. A real downer is that the single lace that goes through the hoop is made by gluing shorter laces together, thats why you read the reviews of the broken lace. You can not pull or you will break it, mine had already tears in the single lace right out of the box, and these have not been tried on before i can tell that. Sadly a part that needs to be functional is pure decoration. Poorly made in China for JC.. The suede is actually nice, completely unlined though. I am taking mine to the cobbler before i wear them out.
If you are looking for super quality forever boots, these are not for you but i feel the Johnny's will last a few years. I am keeping these against my better knowing..they are simply too scrumptious. They fit a tad snug. I am size 6 and bought size 7 and with insoles and thicker sock they fit me well.

LOVE!!!
11.4.2012
"I have been looking for tall (to the knee/above the knee) boots for so long that can be worn up or down that would fit my calves and these are the boots! I have very athletic calves (@15.5") and these fit with no problem. Generally I wear a size 9, but as many JC boots, these run a bit tight. I got them in a 10 and they are perfect. They are adjustable and the suede is soft, they have a worn feel, that I love. I got them in brown and the color is just about the same as they are online, slight darker."

AMAZING BOOTS!
10.30.2012
"I bought these boots a week ago and I haven't been able to take them off! They're super comfy and really adorable. I honestly haven't been able to find a pair of boots that compare to the level of detail these have. I have been eyeing them for about 6 months now because I couldn't bring myself to spend that much money on anything but I bought these along with the Victorian Vixon dress and the outfit is just so cute. I'm a size 6 in shoes and I ordered a 6 and they fit perfect with thin or thick socks. I would order these if your debating because I haven't stopped getting compliments on them."

Dark Charcoal isn't Black
10.27.2012
"The Dark Charcoal color was a grey color and not dark at all. I was hoping to get a really dark color boot so had to return these, but if you are a half size, I would order up. I am an 8.5 and the 39/9 fit really well."

"Looks great on, love the style, the SOFTNESS of these boots. The only thing is, i am short (5'1"# and my legs are short for my size too. My calf size is bigger than normal ppls and i have wide feet....and it still fits! It just gave me blisters and was cutting into my right ankle.. but that was the first time i wore it around the mall.. hopefully i broke into it already that it wont do that the second time around. The color is as pictured #i got the dark brown). I just a lot of stares from ppl cuz of my boots:)"
