"I got the Palace Natural for layering under a pair of white midi jean shorts and they look great! I also sleep in them a lot because of how unbelievably cozy they are. I just got back from a beach vacation and wore them with the ivory Keep Me Tee over my suit one of the days. Beyond that I probably wouldn't wear them alone since they are a bit sheer. I'd love to get other colors for layering under shorts. I'm 5'3 and 115lbs with wider hips and skinny legs. I got a size Small and they're prefect."

"I have these shorts in the burgundy kind of colour no longer available. They accommodate any shape so sizing is not an issue, just depends on how tight you want them. I got them in my usual small. However because of the smocking, I won't be wearing them with anything that shows them off fully. As I expected, if you have a booty then they aren't very flattering. It is really nice to have them peeking out from under skirts and tunics though."

"these shorts are seriously a must, I bought the black and I'm considering another pair because of how much I enjoy wearing them. They do run a little large though, so I would recommend sizing down if you have a smaller frame, or they wouldn't be snug like biker shorts. Also they are pretty see through, sooo uh be aware."

"I bought these in "brown combo" to wear under the FP Trapeze Slip. They're very stretchy and forgiving. I don't find them flattering enough to wear as proper shorts, but they're perfect for under sheer or short dresses. I ordered the Small and I'm 5'7/8", 115-ish lbs for reference. The length is somewhat adjustable because there is a bit of fabric, which I just scrunch down (or you could wear high-wasited)."

"I am addicted to these shorts!!!! I wear them with literally everything and its kind of a problem! I need to order another pair! With wear they tend to stretch, so I have been alternating flat drying, and drying them in the dryer in a delicates bag to size them back down. I bought the beige in store the day they came in! I actually wear these shorts at least 2-3 times a week. Great for lounging around in the house, so pretty to look at."

"i already have a pair of these but recently ordered the teal combo and i LOOOOOOVE it!!!! wore it out in California when I was vacationing there with over-the-knee boots and an oversized v-neck top. these shorts are the perfect go-to's for underneath things or to wear on their own. Absolutely love them. I ordered these in a L (my usual size in bottoms from FP) and they fit like a dream. they don't ride up or bunch in the crotch area. they are going to be my summer staple. love these."

"Still contemplating if I should send this one back... In my opinion, it is too casual to pair with a nice blouse and wear out, so the only wear I'd get out of it is lounging around the house or as pyjamas. The smocking makes it a touch uncomfortable for lounging or sleepwear and bulky to layer under shorts. I am usually a size 26 in FP pants and XS in everything else. I went up to an S in this for extra comfort. I'm glad I did because the XS would have still fitted but it would have been even more uncomfortable."

"I made the mistake of sizing up (I think a couple reviews suggested so) and they ride up my waist and thighs like crazy. Other than that, they are comfortable and cute. The smocked material grants you some space in the shorts, which is why they fit a bit looser."

"A lot of the Free People aesthetic is easily pulling together versatile, unique, and comfortable pieces and this is definitely one of them. I love wearing the rust colored pair in contrast with a striped sweater and boots/flats when I'm just at home and doing errands/walking the dog. You can easily wear tights underneath them and it won't look bulky or strange if you were to wear the shorts under slips and dresses like the voile trapeze slip. They also look great with slightly oversized tee shirts or high-low tees. Just beware that the ivory and lighter shaded ones can be see through, so that's why I got the rust. You can always wear jean/cord shorts over them if you do get the lighter ones if the shirt is too short to cover your butt!"

"Yes, I bought the exact same outfit (these bottoms in ivory with the matching top) twice. Let's just say they were not kidding about the lay flat to dry bit; I accidentally put mine in the dryer, and they are now tiny. But I love the outfit so much that I have reordered both pieces in both the ivory as well as the red.
As for fit, I am 5'3" 108, and I bought both in a small. XS fit as well, but the small adds a couple of inches in length and this gave me the option to wear them as shorts as well as under dresses."

-If you have juicy thighs and a curvy body these might make you look bigger. This might not be a bad thing though.
I did not purchase these just because of this, but they will for sure look great on a skinny body longing for some more curves.
